Deployment Config Flow

PROBLEM

The original chain setup flow created friction for two core user groups. Non-technical users were blocked by complexity, while advanced users lacked control and transparency. From a business standpoint, increasing mainnet deployments—our most profitable conversions—was difficult without BD intervention.

GOAL

Redesign the configuration flow to serve both novice and technical users. Reduce setup friction, improve education and flexibility, and increase testnet-to-mainnet conversion to support revenue growth.

ROLE

Product Design Lead (sole designer)

SCOPE

Redesign onboarding experience for blockchain and Layer 2 deployments

"precise, trustworthy, approachable, reliable"

Process

Dual-Path UX for Two User Types

Designed a three-level navigation system used across all services:

Templates for Beginners

Pre-built configurations based on use cases (e.g. gaming, DeFi) helped users launch a testnet chain with minimal effort.

Advanced Stepper Flow

Granular controls with inline explanations enabled power users to customize their setup while learning how each parameter works.

Slack-Based Conversion Funnel

Post-deployment, users received a tailored CTA to join a private Slack channel with our business team. This facilitated high-quality BD conversations and nudged users toward mainnet deployment.

Validation

USABILITY TESTING

Ran usability tests with both technical and non-technical users to refine UX. Collaborated with BD to align conversion goals, then tracked Slack engagement and testnet→mainnet metrics.

Outcomes

STREAMLINED

3× increase in testnet deployments after launch

PROFITABLE

Higher mainnet conversion via Slack-based lead generation

UNIFICATION

Unified onboarding flow for both novice and expert users

GUIDING

Balanced user education, flexibility, and business impact in one scalable design
